Why We Do What We Do...
What is Patient Advocacy?
Patient advocacy is an area in healthcare specializing in advocating for patients and their caregivers. A professional Patient Advocate gives a voice to the client (patient, family member or caregiver) by providing services which aid in maneuvering through the complex maze of the healthcare industry. By advocating for a client, the Patient Advocate protects the client’s human and legal rights, and, if necessary, the Patient Advocate will assert those rights on behalf of the client.
Peace of Mind Life Services, LLC (POMLS) was founded by Dianne Kissel in 2016. After 38 years in the information technology industry, Dianne retired and decided to take a year off to evaluate her options and, as she says, “to figure out the rest of my life”. Prior to retiring from the IT industry, Dianne became a volunteer with an organization known as CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) dedicated to representing and being the voice for children in the court system (http://www.vfkcasa.org/). While Dianne has always been an advocate for animal rights, representing children in the court was a new and very rewarding experience for her.
Over the next two years, many family members and friends experienced life-changing illnesses and accidents. Involvement with family members and friends who have gone through health-related traumas, as well as her own medical experiences, led to the pursuit of a career dedicated to helping others who are facing health events. POMLS evolved out of a desire to help clients find the best solution-set for their individual situation and needs.
POMLS recommends other products and services. Please see the Resources section. If you ever have any questions about anything that you read on this site, please contact us. We will be happy to hear from you!
